Our team has just completed a study on incident heart failure in the Amsterdam metropolitan region, based on primary care data.
Our study highlights are the following:
- The incidence of heart failure increases with age and is higher in men compared with women
- While risk factors differ, no sex differences were found in symptoms prior to HF diagnosis
- Survival rates at 10-year follow-up are poor, particularly in men
- Patients in less affluent city districts have higher incidence rates, younger manifestations, and poor prognosis
